The artist:
I have been making pots for more than 25 years. By the time I was fifteen
I knew I would follow a career in art. With a B.A. and M.F.A. in ceramics,
I was able to study not just the technical and historical aspects of art,
but felt inspired to investigate aesthetic and conceptual ideas as well.
Working in photography, film, and performance brought new energy to my
work in clay. I enjoy working with the tension between sophisticated and
playful design. My hope is to access a child-like vision and appreciation
of life that celebrates boldness of color and freedom of expression.
The work:
Each piece is carefully and individually hand built or wheel thrown from
earthenware clay. After the pieces are bisque fired, underglazes are airbrushed
leaving a fine surface for decorating. Details of design are then airbrushed
and hand painted. Finally a clear glaze is applied, and the work is fired
to a temperature of 1815 degrees F. All work is functional and food safe,
but not recommended for the microwave or dishwasher.
