Expression through the visual arts is my way of commenting on what I observe and experience in life. Sometimes those comments are in response to:

• the human need for peace and quiet—a room of my own, a retreat, a sanctuary, the possibility of finding the “still point”.
• what I perceive to be chaos headed toward order, or conversely, order headed toward chaos. The work in the series titled “Order and Chaos” attempts to acknowledge, understand, cope with, and accept my desire for some order in my life.
• the beauty around us—a simple celebration of colors, shapes and life in Nature.

In life and artwork, I am fascinated with edges, overlaps, layers, structure, process, discovery, color. As I build each piece, there is an ongoing conversation among all these elements.

I love the physical “doing of the work”. I have a lifelong enjoyment of working with fabric and paper. The processes of dyeing fabric and painting paper are full of surprises, with so many rich and subtle color variations in the end results. The challenge, excitement and mystery for me is in the placing of each color piece in a layer, and the building of the layers.

I have been an artist for 30 years. Prior to my work in mixed media/collage, I was a tapestry weaver. My work is included nationally in public and private collections.

Hands impatiently waiting for fabric, paper, dyes, paints.
Heart and soul ready to translate what the senses have absorbed.
Slowly. Quietly. Eyes wide, ears tuned.

Beauty of Nature
Order and Chaos
The Still Point.

Wonder, gratitude, faith, celebration.

Colors, gradations.
Textures, rhythm, order.
Structure, edges, layers.
Balance, movement, simplicity.
